Pakistan reports 1,779 new infection, 34 new deaths in 24 hours; toll jumps to 52,473 cases

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported 1,779 new coronavirus pandemic infections and 34 new deaths during last 24 hours, The toll jumped to 52,473 infections and 1,101 deaths across the country.

The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), has confirmed 1,779 new coronavirus infections during last 24 hours while 34 new fatalities were confirmed.

Sindh is still the worst-hit province by the coronavirus pandemic as it crossed the 20k mark having the toll of 20,883 confirmed cases the highest number along with 381 fatalities, followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Country has so far conducted 453,987 coronavirus tests and 16,387 in last 24 hours. 14,155 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas many are in critical condition. Patients are under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available.

According to latest figure given on National Coronavirus Dashboard of NCOC on May 23, Saturday 09:40am, the province-wise break up after confirming the toll of 52,473 infections.

Sindh crossed 20k mark as toll of new coronavirus cases in the province juped to 20,883, followed by Punjab with 18,730 infections. The infections confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have reached to 7,391, in Balochistan toll surged to 3,198, Gilgit-Baltistan reached to the toll of 607 infections, Islamabad Capital Territory reached to 1,457 and 171 infection reported in Azad Jammu Kashmir.

The figure given by Coronavirus Dashboard in its province-wise break up regarding the total 1,101 deaths reported in the country after 34 new fatalities during last 24 hours. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is on top of the fatalities list with 381 deaths while Sindh at number 2 with 340 deaths, Punjab stands with 324 fatalities, Balochistan 39, Gilgit-Baltisan 4, Islamabad Capital Territory 12 and AJK 1.

Sindh government in the 20 points SOPs issued for Eid-ul-Fitr congregations said that they should be prayed in open spaces.

According to the notification issued by the provincial home department security and cleanliness should be ensured for Eid prayers.
