ISLAMABAD: Coronavirus epidemic during its third wave has took a new surge as the virus claimed 53 more lives during last 24 hours and 2,258 people were tested positive to killer disease.

During last 24 hours 53 new deaths were reported to COVID-19 across the Pakistan and 2,258 more people were tested positive to the virus round the Pakistan on Thursday.

Nationwide infections on Thursday surged to new high during last more than one month as 2,258 were tested to coronavirus epidemic besides 53 more deaths were confirmed. With 2,258 new infections reported in the country that took the toll to 597,497 cases and with 53 new deaths the toll of fatalities jumped to 13,377.

According to the latest figures displayed on National Coronavirus Dashboard of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the NCOC confirmed the death of 53 more people during last 24 hours besides reported that 2,258 persons tested positive for COVID-19.

Sindh with 260,406 overall COVID-19 cases remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Punjab has overtaken Sindh in most number of casualties.

So far across the country 260,406 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 180,944 in Punjab 74,722 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 46,579 in Islamabad, 19,157 in Balochistan, 10,730 in Azad Kashmir and 4,959 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Nationwide tally of fatalities remains 13,377 out of that 5,662 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,448 in Sindh, 2,129 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 516 in Islamabad, 316 in Azad Kashmir, 202 in Balochistan, and 104 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan has so far conducted 9,360,202 coronavirus tests and 42,164 in the last 24 hours. 566,493 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 1,688 patients are in critical condition.
