5th Spell Of Monsoon Rains To Hit Punjab From Monday

LAHORE: The fifth spell of monsoon rains is all set to begin in Punjab from Monday (July 28) and continue until July 31.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) widespread rainfall is expected across most districts of the province.

The PDMA spokesperson has warned of potential urban and flash flooding, landslides in hilly areas, and damage to weak or poorly constructed buildings.

Rain is forecast in the following areas like Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, and Okara.

Between July 29 and 31, rain is also expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on high alert. Emergency control rooms and Rescue 1122 disaster response teams have also been placed on high alert to deal with any emergencies.

He noted that the province has recorded 73 percent more rainfall this year compared to the same period last year, and urged all relevant departments to be fully prepared.

The Director General of PDMA warned that heavy rainfall could trigger landslides in Murree and Galiyat, while vulnerable and dilapidated structures may be at risk of collapse.

Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the rainy period, refrain from driving through flowing water, and stay in safe locations until conditions improve.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released a report detailing the damages caused by monsoon rains from June 26 to July 25, 2025.

According to the report, a total of 266 people have lost their lives and 633 have been injured across the country due to the rains. The fatalities include 94 men, 46 women, and 126 children. Punjab recorded the highest toll with 144 deaths and 493 injuries.

The report further states that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw 63 deaths and 79 injuries, Sindh reported 25 deaths and 40 injuries, and Balochistan had 16 deaths and 4 injuries. Additionally, eight people died in Islamabad, eight in Gilgit-Baltistan, and two in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In the last 24 hours, 69 houses were destroyed due to the rains. Overall, 1,158 houses have been demolished, and 366 livestock have been swept away by floods.
