MULTAN: Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs (HR&MA) Ijaz Alam Augustine has said that prime responsibility of Punjab government to protect rights of minorities and all available resources being utilized to protect human rights in the province.
He said, “New Act of Divorce and Marriage would be implemented after mutual consultation of all Churches.”
The Provincial Minister expressed these views while addressing a seminar organized by an NGO regarding divorce and marriage act 2019 in Multan on Wednesday.
In his address, Ijaz Alam that in previous law, Registration of marriages from Union council or NADRA was not mentioned and marriage age of a girl was 14, while the new law would be beneficial for Pastors and especially women.
He said that bill being introduced to ensure equal rights but some people are trying to politicize it and oppose the bill, while among all the stakeholders it has been decided that bill will be passed after consultation of all stakeholders.
The seminar was attended by political leaders of PTI, religious scholars, Peter Jacob and Christian community.(INP)
