Coronavirus And The Teenagers

BY EMAN SHAHZAD

“These are serious times. However, don’t underestimate the power of laughter to help us through.” says― Charles F Glassman

I was going through the response of my fellow teenagers about Coronavirus and the lockdown and I must say I didn’t hear anything good.

The Instagram influencers with their IGTV videos about how to work out, make a new dish, makeup tutorial and always be productive rant are only appreciated by a few people. Most of the teenagers want you to stop telling them to be productive.

Being a teen is hard itself. Being a teen during a worldwide pandemic is yet adverse. I mean we were supposed to go out with friends, play football, complain about going to school in front of my parents when actually all we do is have fun with our friends and make our teachers hates us, go to concerts and lose the little amount of sanity which we possess and talk about the new Will Smith movie.

I mean this shit ruined our travel plans which we were already in the making since a year or so. Above all is the frustration we are being told to be productive. I mean do they even know how our brain works. We were the first ones to search Corona and its symptoms on google only to freak people out.

We tried our best yelling at people that we are going to die and that this is end of the world just like the movie 2012 we will die by something we can’t see but hurt like a bitch. We were the ones who came forth with the brilliant idea that it was to control the population. We told everyone it was developed by Israel under the supervision of Trump. I mean if that’s not productive what is? We were the ones to come up with the cure which was drinking bleach or eating garlic. And you ask us to be productive.

On a serious note being a teenager I am obsessed with Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube and any other social media app. At first no one was taking the quarantine seriously and when they did, everyone was talking about doing exercise, learn cooking, start writing, painting or learning a new language.

Teachers you are causing insomnia and high levels of stress so high that when my friends got to know I was writing they sent me paragraphs on how their teachers were torturing them. So please go easy on us poor souls. Parents are always the best people in our life but not so much when they keep nagging us about doing something and not wasting time.

Can we not just get a break? I get it adults think their life is full of drama and stress. It’s just about yesterday when I was talking to a friend. We were laughing and sharing memes when all of a sudden she said I want this quarantine and corona virus to just stop. When I heard the seriousness in her voice I asked why and she replied with a long sigh and said, “I am just tired because I have never been in such a situation before where I don’t have to do anything except stay at home.” Even now when the lockdown is lifted, we teens are still stuck inside our homes.

Yes staying at home will help us protect ourselves as well as others safe but we need to be comfortable. What’s more important is how you uplift your mental health, how you try to be in the best version of you and not some Instagram blogger.
