Inam Ghani replaces Shoaib Dastgir as IGP Punjab

LAHORE: Another Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Punjab was sacked as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government appointed Inam Ghani as Punjab’s sixth IGP in last two years. A notification has been issued in this regard.
Federal government had transferred Inspector General (IG) Punjab Shoaib Dastgir after he expressed reservations over appointment of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Umair Shaikh, sources told.
After the approval of Prime Minister Imran Khan, federal government had decided to change the IG Punjab and PM had asked names for the new IGP Punjab.
According to sources names of Arif Nawaz, Allah Dino Khawaja, Kaleem Imam, Rao Sardar, Amir Zulfiqar, Mohsin Butt were under consideration for the post of IGP Punjab.
According to details, IGP Punjab did not come to office for second day and schedule of his meeting was also not announced. Sources have claimed that differences between IGP and the CCPO remain unresolved even after a meeting with Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) govenrment has changed five IGPs in two years.
Kaleem Imam remained IG Punjab for only 3 months, from June 13 to September 11, 2018. Muhammad Tahir remained in the post of IG Punjab for only one month from September 11, 2018 to October 15, 2018.
Amjad Javed Saleemi remained IGP Punjab for 6 months, from 15th October to 17th April 2019, Capt (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan remained in the post of IGP for 7 months, from 17th April to 28th November 2019 Shoaib Dastgir was appointed IGP Punjab on November 28, 2019.
Earlier, federal and Punjab government decided not to transfer Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore. According to official of Centre, the appointment of CCPO was made after due consideration and government cannot take decisions against law and merit.
On the other hand, PSP Punjab chapter convened an important meeting in IG office to discuss standoff between the two police officials and convey their reservations to the government.
Police officers also barred CCPO Lahore Umair Shaikh from the meeting and attendants decided to not allow CCPO in any meetings until he is punished. Attendants also vowed to not obey orders of Umair Shaikh if he refuses to obey orders of IG Punjab.
