My six-year-old has learnt a new game of finding shapes and things in blotted surfaces; sometimes on the scratched paint of walls, out of clouds, in the tiles and even in the spilled drinks or food.
I admire her interest in shaping shapes out of shapelessness and join her at times- she crazily finds butterflies, ice cream, flowers and what not. She does not only enjoy pointing out the images rather she convinces me on calling that particular thing with the same name! And how ironic is it to observe the meaninglessness of names and even the existence of any entity.
For instance, if she finds a “doll” in the crease of her blanket and insists on calling it with the same name…. I never have a logical argument to negate the new name given by her as she poses a very simple question. What would happen if I don’t call and believe it to be a blanket but a doll? And there I sit looking at her speechlessly, for I know that a cloud would not ever change into a balloon for her but what harm does it bring if a changed definition of any entity provides her with temporary satisfaction.
I agree one should not live in fantasies or start believing in something superficial but this practice certainly gives an insight on how our beliefs are formed and how can we influence their formation.
You may have a question on my sanity writing such nonsense, but isn’t this strong the power and impact of perception on human mind?. Isn’t it the way we shape our realities and start believing them religiously?. Rather isn’t it the way we form our beliefs?.
We see, we perceive, we interpret and it is then transformed into our beliefs which we carry with us most of the times for the whole life unless some happening shakes our subconscious or we consciously put an effort to shift our paradigm. And then these believes have staunch influence upon our actions. I find it quite parallel to Stephen Colbert’s quote; “Facts matter not at all. Perception is everything. It’s certainly”.
It is not actually what it is, it’s how you perceive it. Believe it or not- it is miraculous that your perception, your views, your opinions, actually your thinking shapes the world around you.
Rhonda Byrne explains it beautifully in her book “The Secret”. She says that one’s perception has a strong impact upon his or her aura and it is solely upon the individual to form a positive or a negative magnetic field around. Then this magnetic field, she says, consists of the bars which the thinker adds through his or her perception and then these bars form a to-and- fro motion between the world and the individual.
Furthermore, the positive aura, according to her, attracts positive and the negative attracts negativity. This implies that you attract what you believe or in other words any one can attract whatever they want just by changing their beliefs about it!.
Thus, optimism is not only the key to achieve happiness but it also enables one to get closer to his goals. The magic begins within the mind before it really happens. So my friends we need very little to make a life happy; it is all within ourselves, in our way of thinking.
