Punjab govt urged to review recruitment policy for agriculture engineers

ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Society of Agricultural Engineers (PSAE) has expressed serious reservations over non-inclusion of agriculture engineers in the recently announced vacancies by Punjab government in Water Resource Commission and Water Services Regulatory Authority.

President PSAE Sayed Mansoor Ali Rizvi in a statement on Wednesday reminded relevant  departments including the Punjab irrigation department that recruitments on the advertised vacancies were purely related to agriculture engineering.

The main focus of agriculture engineering is to promote, develop and boost the vital agriculture sector of the country.

Right from provision of advanced technology, techniques to ensure provision of water to the agricultural land, is the domain and expertise of agriculture engineering, he said.

Ironically, only civil engineers are given permission to compete on the advertised posts at a time when there is no preference given to soil and water related issues in the civil engineering curriculum, Rizvi added.

He demanded of the Punjab’s chief minister, secretary irrigation and minister for water resources to cancel the process of hiring on the advertised posts of director general, director policy and research, and assistant directors and allow agriculture and civil engineering aspirants to equally apply for the positions.

“If our stand point cannot be considered then the current process of hiring tends to deal an unprecedented blow to the country’s agriculture sector, which is the backbone of Pakistan. Secondly, there will be injustice with the field of agriculture engineering,” Rizvi added.
