ISLAMABAD: A three-day residential training on the Effective Implementation of Sexual Harassment Laws concluded today at Mehergarh: A Centre for Learning.
The event was commemorated by Farhatullah Babar, a senior member of the PPP’s leadership, who served as the chief guest.
The training brought together representatives from various national and provincial organizations who have shown a serious commitment to addressing sexual harassment.
During the training, Maliha Husain, Executive Director at Mehergarh and the facilitator for the training, provided comprehensive insights into the definition of sexual harassment, the roles and responsibilities of employees, senior management, and committee members as stipulated by the law.
She also elaborated on the procedural aspects and timelines for registering and resolving cases of sexual harassment within organizations.
Farhatullah Babar, in his address at the concluding ceremony, expressed his satisfaction with the dedication demonstrated by national and provincial organizations in tackling this pervasive issue.
He highlighted the significance of the law and acknowledged the relentless efforts of Dr. Fouzia Saeed in its establishment.
Babar praised Mehergarh for its remarkable institutionalization of the implementation process for sexual harassment laws, emphasizing that it is now the responsibility of all workplaces to effectively enforce these laws.
Prominent institutions such as Indus Hospital, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), National University of Science and Technology (NUST), University of Peshawar, and Helping Hands actively participated in the training program.
Notably, an educationalist from Skardu was also present, demonstrating the broad representation and collective commitment to fostering safe and inclusive work environments.
The training sessions facilitated open and informed discussions, providing attendees with valuable knowledge and practical tools to address and prevent sexual harassment at the workplace.
Participants commended Mehergarh for its tireless efforts in promoting the implementation of ‘The Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act’ over the past two decades.
Mehergarh: A Centre for Learning remains steadfast in its commitment to creating safer workplaces and fostering a culture of respect, dignity, and equality. The successful conclusion of this training program marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat sexual harassment and protect the rights of women in the workplace.
