ISLAMABAD: Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasserzade on Saturday met with Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif in Islamabad, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and promoting regional peace and stability.
According to an official statement, the high-level meeting focused on mutual interests, regional security, counter-terrorism strategies, and ways to deepen defence collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif welcomed the visiting Iranian delegation and appreciated Iran’s continued support on issues of mutual concern. He emphasized the importance of defence diplomacy in strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and building a more secure regional environment.
General Nasserzadeh, in turn, expressed gratitude to the government of Pakistan for its warm hospitality and reaffirmed Iran’s desire to develop defence ties based on mutual respect, shared values, and trust.
Both sides expressed confidence that enhanced military and strategic cooperation would contribute to lasting peace in the region. The meeting concluded in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with both ministers agreeing to maintain close communication and expand cooperation in the future.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the Foreign Office in Islamabad, reaffirming the two countries’ shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
Araqchi, who is accompanying Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on his official visit to Pakistan, was warmly received by Ishaq Dar upon his arrival at the Foreign Office. The meeting was marked by cordiality and a shared vision to deepen collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.
During their discussions, both leaders reiterated their determination to enhance cooperation in trade, economic development, and regional stability. They agreed on the importance of expanding partnerships in sectors of mutual interest and emphasized the need to promote sustainable regional peace.
