Swat Serena Hotel closes after over 40 years of hospitality

After more than forty years of hospitality and heritage in the valley, Serena Hotels announced the closure of the Swat Serena Hotel.

The Swat Serena Hotel, known for its colonial-style architecture and the historic Vazir House, has been a central landmark in Saidu Sharif since the mid-1980s.

Originally leased from the government, the property served as a premier destination for both domestic and international travelers exploring the scenic beauty of northern Pakistan.

Over the decades, the hotel witnessed the valley’s various phases, from its golden era of tourism to the challenging years of local unrest, and the subsequent recovery. Management highlighted the conclusion of their long-standing lease agreement as a primary reason for the shutdown.

Local tourism experts say the Swat Serena Hotel was more than just a business; it was a symbol of the region’s history, having hosted numerous dignitaries and preserved the architectural legacy of the former Swat State.
