Swat: A 12-year-old student drowned in Swat River here on Saturday in Asharay area of Matta tehsil of district Swat, Police said.
According to Matta police, a group of school students had visited Asharay Jalo Godhar on an official trip and were spending time along the bank of Swat River. Meanwhile, one of the students slipped and fell into Swat River.
Seeing him in distress, his brother immediately jumped into water in an attempt to save him, however, both were caught in the strong current. While one of the brothers, who attempted to rescue his brother, was rescued by fellow students and the other was swept away by water, police said.
The student, who drowned in the water, was later identified as Qasim.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The dead body was later recovered and shifted to Tehsil Headquarter (THQ) Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Following completion of medico-legal procedure, the dead body was handed over to the family.
