A welcoming admission of negligence

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday took responsibility of the recent shortage and hike in flour and sugar prices in the country. He admitted that his government’s negligence was to blame for the crisis.

Addressing a ceremony in Lahore, the premier also assured the nation that a high-level inquiry into the surge in prices of the two commodities was being conducted and the names of those responsible will be made public.

It is encouraging to hear of admission of the negligence the nation seems to have been a victim of since weeks. It is not the only one. The country has seen price hike in every commodity of essential use.

Let it be vegetables, fruits, or other kitchen items, the prices continued upward with the government just announcing measures to control the situation and nothing concrete on ground.

Common man and especially living below the poverty line could hardly find enough money to buy the things they needed in kitchen daily. Same is the case with other items and the space is shrinking for the poor with each day to come.

The admission on part of the PM is welcoming as it may provide the government a start to take action against such mafias in the country. There are other areas as well that call for some admission also, followed by genuine steps to pull the population out of the price-hike storm.

The terrible assaults inflicted on poor of the country by government’s negligence have led the masses to a state close to starvation.  The admission is a positive development, pleasing to ear, good for the consumption of common man and sells without much botheration but what the government needs to do to check such a negligence in future is to hold the responsible accountable.
