Anti- Polio Drive: Over 641,000 Children Targeted Across Vehari

LAHORE: Vehari Deputy Commissioner Imrana Tauqeer inaugurated on Saturday a five-day anti-polio campaign, which was aiming to vaccinate over 641,000 children across the children.

Expressing her thoughts, she emphasised the significance of the campaign and urged the public to participate actively. “The anti-polio campaign is a national obligation,” said Tauqeer.

She also directed the police to ensure a strong presence at both internal and external entry points of the district.

“Police personnel must be stationed at all key routes to guarantee security during the campaign,” she added.

Separately, it was reported that National Institute of Health (NIH) had confirmed four new polio cases in the country as new cases were reported from Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Jacobabad and Sukkur.

This brought the total number of polio cases reported across Pakistan this year to 63.

Three girls from Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Jacobabad have been affected, while a boy in Sukkur has been paralyzed by the disease.

Dera Ismail Khan has reported nine cases this year, Tank and Jacobabad have each seen three cases, and Sukkur has recorded its first polio case of the year, according to the NIH.
