ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Saturday contacted his Iranian counterpart Dr Ali Larijani and apprised him of the latest situation of occupied Kashmir.
The Indian government on Monday last ended special status of Jammu and Kashmir by revoking Articles 370 and 35A of its Constitution.
During conversation, Asad Qaiser told Dr Ali Larijani that India’s move had resulted in a historic fraud, committed against the beleaguered people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said, Kashmiri leaders and citizens fear this step is an attempt by the Indian government to change demography of the Muslim-majority territory.
Asad Qaiser told him that the entire Kashmir valley had virtually been put under siege with a dawn-to-dusk curfew, suspension of Internet services and a complete blockade of any other means of communication.
He told him that the Pakistan Parliament on August 6 and 7 unanimously approved a resolution against India and demanded right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir. He informed that the Hurriyat leaders and even two former chief ministers of the occupied territory had been placed under house arrest which was violation of the basic human rights.
He told the Iranian Speaker that violation of the Line of Control (LoC) by Indian troops had become a routine but the world community and the international rights organisations had become a mute spectators.
The Speaker, Dr Ali Larijani, said that he was fully aware of the Kashmir situation and said Iran wanted solution of Kashmir dispute according to the UN resolutions and aspirations of Kashmiri people. He also supported the people of Kashmir in their just struggle for securing right to self-determination. (INP)
