ISLAMABAD: Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of  Islamabad police opened fire and killed young student for not stopping his car near G/10 Friday night.
According to his family, the 21-year-old was coming back after dropping a friend to university when the incident took place. “He was shot just for not stopping his car,” the victim’s father said in a video statement.
His parents have filed a complaint against the police officers demanding action be taken against them immediately.
Following this, five officers of the Anti-Terrorism Squad were arrested. The capital’s inspector-general has promised a clear investigation into the case.
Earlier in the day, the police claimed they received news of a dacoit in a white car escaping. “The policemen asked the man to stop the car but when he didn’t, they opened fire at him,” an officer said, claiming that two bullets hit him.
A medical report by PIMS Hospital, however, revealed that six bullets hit the victim, while 17 were fired. The bullets hit him on his face, chest, neck and head.
The Islamabad operations DIG has formed teams to investigate the matter. CCTV footage from the nearby cameras is being obtained and evidence from the crime scene is being collected.
Meanwhile, five personnel of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have been arrested for opening fire on a vehicle, leaving a youth dead in the federal capital.
According to initial report of the incident, contrary to the statement of the police personnel, it was revealed that shots were not fired on the tyres and five out of total 17 shots were fired from the front of the car which led to death of the youth.
The personnel had earlier claimed that they opened fire after Usama refused to stop the car; however, it can be clearly seen that several shots were fired from both sides and front after stopping the vehicle.
The youth, who was killed, was a student of intermediate and was living with his father in a rented house and used to drive car as a cab to make ends meet.
IG Islamabad has taken notice of the incident and constituted an inquiry team under DIG. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has also ordered to immediately register case against the personnel.
Father of the victim has claimed that Usama had an argument with police when he went to drop off his friends to University at 2am. Father also said that Usama informed him about the incident over phone but later policemen stopped his car and fired shots at him.
