Balochistan witnessed an alarming surge in traffic accidents in 2025, as thousands of crashes on major highways resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries to tens of thousands of passengers, according to official data.
Because of frequent accidents, the Quetta-Karachi national highway (N-25) has come to be known as a “killer highway”.
The road’s single-carriageway structure has been cited as a major reason for the high number of crashes.
Citizens have urged the government to dualise the Quetta-Karachi highway as well as other national highways across Balochistan to reduce the loss of lives.
As per the data, the highest number of accidents in 2025 occurred on the Quetta-Islamabad highway (N-50), where 7,647 accidents were reported.
These incidents claimed 56 lives and left 6,944 people injured.
Rescue 1122 organised 2,986 outpatient departments (OPDs) across the province during 2025 to provide immediate medical assistance to the victims.
Experts have warned that accidents could rise further if highways are not dualised without delay.
