At least five people lost their lives and five more were injured when a powerful blast struck a fireworks factory in Hyderabad’s Laghari Goth on Saturday, authorities said.
The blast, reportedly heard from a distance, caused a major fire at the facility.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the site and initiated operation. Officials warned that the death toll could rise as operations continue.
According to DC Hyderabad, the explosion occurred in an illegal factory, whose building was locked from the front. The factory had been constructed in fields near the Indus River. He added that several motorcycles remain trapped under the debris.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident. The CM has sought information from the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad and ordered a full audit of safety arrangements in the factory. He warned that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the explosion.
Also, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori expressed deep sorrow over the fireworks factory explosion. Tessori conveyed his grief over the deaths and injuries resulting from the incident. The Governor has directed the relevant authorities to submit an immediate report and investigate the cause of the fire.
