ISLAMABAD: Brick kiln owners must adopt eco-friendly technology to quell the environmental pollution and other problems caused by the smoke of the kilns.
Smog is worst problem Punjab is facing and one of the causes of smog is brick kiln and it is need of hour that the kilns owners and their workers be given training how to use new technology to control air pollution, especially the factor of smog, which has been badly affected the environment, while the main cause of pollution in the country is the emission of smoke from the vehicles and steps are also being taken to reduce it.
Closure of kilns is not solution to the problem and it will further result in unemployment and government has to think positively and scientifically on this issue. It Is imperative that government take measures to motivate the kiln owners to adopt latest technology being used world over.
PTI Government has decided that the owners of the kilns will be given loans on easy terms to help them move on to the new technology and hopefully for the use of Euro Petrol will reduce emissions of smoke in Lahore and other major cities of Punjab, said M. Rizwan, Punjab Provincial Minister for Environmental Protection Division.
A high level departmental meeting in the Environment Committee Room in this regard held with Minister for Environmental Protection Division in the chair. The meeting was briefed how to evaluate the situation of environment, the stations are operating in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan while at districts or tehsils levels Zig Zag technology being introduced and important steps being taken to transfer all kilns to zig-zag technology in the future, an official of the Environmental Protection Division said.
As many as 63 brick kilns being operating in Lahore, were transferred to new technology, while 96 kilns have been temporarily stopped working till December 20. All the owners of brick kilns have been warned to move on to new technology otherwise will not be allowed to further work.
The EPA hold strict prohibition is being ensured under Section 144 on the burning crop residues or waste etc, while for the first time in the country’s history, the land 2500 acres retrieved from mafia occupied in Lahore and forest will be established on regarding drive of Green Pakistan, the official said, adding that a commission set up by the Lahore High Court met the representatives of industries at LCCI and directed them to adopt SOPs to control the environmental pollution.
