Bus driver tried to cross track without noticing approaching train: DS Railways

SUKKUR: Bus driver tried to cross the railway track without noticing the approaching train, that resulted in unfortunate collision between a passenger bus and Pakistan Express, said Divisional Superintendent Railways Sukkur.

Talking to media on Saturday, the Divisinal Superintendent claimed that a sign board was installed at the railway crossing. Further investigations into the matter are ongoing and responsible persons will be determined afterwards, he said.

It is pertinent here to mention that at least 20 people were killed including women and children, and 25 sustained injuries as Pakistan Express rammed into a passenger bus at unmanned Kandhra railway crossing near Rohri on Friday.

Rescue teams reached the incident spot and shifted the wounded to the Civil Hospital Sukkur where ten persons are in critical condition. Emergency had been imposed at the hospital following the accident.

The passenger bus was going from Karachi to Sargodha while the train, Pakistan Express, was enroute to Punjab from Sindh.

On the other hand, train service resumed after completion of rescue work at the rail track. All the trains stopped at various stations between Punjab and Sindh were allowed to resume their journey.
