Charter of Economy-a bigger cause

Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has agreed to the constitution of a Special Committee on the Charter of Economy to cope with economic challenges facing the country.

In tweets on his social media account, Asad Qaiser said he had a meeting with the Prime Minister and they discussed different legislative, political and economic issues. He said this special committee for the economy will consider current economic conditions and will propose solutions. The Speaker said the opposition will be taken on-board for the greater cause of the country.

The government’s decision to take the opposition on-board comes after days of acrimony in the parliament. Members from the treasury and the opposition side held each other responsible for the mess. To the utter disappointment of the people of the country, the Chairman Senate has had to call security inside the Senate hall so that the rival legislators don’t come to the blows.

Since the PTI took reins of the country, the economy has emerged as the biggest challenge for them. Price-hike, devaluation of the rupee, falling exports and revenue generation has hit the poor hard.

The emerging situation seems to have compelled the government to take the much-criticizing opposition on board. The political parties must sit together to find a way out of the economic crisis hitting the country hard. They must set aside their political differences for a greater cause.

In the meantime, the main opposition parties may seek some relief in the accountability process in return of what they could contribute to pulling the country out of the economic crisis as the leadership of both parties is in hot waters. The main issue of the leadership of these parties i.e. PML-N and PPP at the moment is to get away with the accountability process.

They may put some demands that may hurt the accountability process and sentiments of the people who had voted PTI into power with the hope of accountability of the mighty ones. The government should start work on the Charter of Economy and ensure that the accountability process continues unchecked in a transparent and impartial manner.
