Chaudhry Nisar likely to take oath as member Punjab Assembly member in next session

LAHORE: Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Nisar is likely to take oath as a member of the Punjab Assembly in its next session.

In the 2018 general elections, Chaudhry Nisar was elected as an independent member of the Punjab Assembly from PP-10 Rawalpindi. However, he did not take the oath of the provincial assembly seat.

It may be recalled that the Cabinet Committee on Legislation had passed an amendment to the Election Act 2017, according to which a seat will become vacant if the elected representative does not take oath within 60 days. Following the issuance of the ordinance, the Election Commission will de-notify such representatives. (With input from INP)
