Riyadh: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud in Saudi Arabia on Saturday to discuss Iran’s attacks on Saudi Arabia and ongoing Middle East conflict.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, both discussed Iranian attacks on the Kingdom within the framework of the Saudi-Pakistani Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement, focusing on mechanisms to halt these aggressions which undermine regional security and stability.
It said that both sides expressed hope that the Iranian side would exercise wisdom and reason while avoiding further miscalculations.
Similarly, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday said that the CDF visited the Kingdom and met with the defence minister.
The two “discussed the gravity of the security situation accruing from Iranian drone and missile attacks on the Kingdom”, as well as joint measures needed to halt them within the framework of the strategic mutual defence agreement signed by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia last year.
As per the statement, it was emphasised that unprovoked aggression undermined efforts for regional security and stability and foreclosed options for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
“Both sides expressed hope and desire that brotherly country Iran would manifest prudence and sagacity to avoid any miscalculation and strengthen the hands of friendly countries seeking peaceful settlement of the crisis,” the ISPR added.
The US and Israel started a large-scale military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28. Iran has since attacked a number of sites across the Gulf.
The Saudi Defense Ministry said a number of drones had been shot down that were targeting the Shayba oil field in the Empty Quarter on Saturday.
A drone attacked the US embassy in Riyadh on Tuesday causing a minor fire, but no one was hurt in the incident.
