Coronavirus death toll reaches 55 while confirmed cases jumps to 4,072

ISLAMABAD: Coronavirus epidemic took 58 lives round the Pakistan so far as new fatalities were reported, while the number of confirmed COVID-19 infection cases jumped to 4,072 Tuesday after new infections were confirmed in the country.

After confirmed cases getting increased rapidly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, nation-wide coronavirus tally shot up from 4,004 on Tuesday morning to 4,072 in Wedbesday morning.

The province-wise break up of coronavirus infections given by the National Health Authorities Coronavirus dashboard at 11:12am, April 8 Wednesday, is as total number of confirmed infections was 4,072, with Punjab still on top of the table with 2,030, followed by Sindh 986, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 527, Gilgit-Baltistan 212, Balochistan 206, Islamabad Capital Territory 83 and AJK 28.

According to province-wise break up the death toll jumped to 54 confirmed by National Health authorities at 11:12am, April 8, Wednesday, Sindh topped the table of fatalities with 18 deaths and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have 18, Punjab 16, Gilgit-Baltistan 3, Islamabad Capital Territory 1 and Balochistan 2.

Supreme Court of Pakistan will be briefed on coronavirus situation all over the country by officials from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza. The Apex Court will apprised by the government functionaries about coronavirus victims and distribution of funds and rations today. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and other SC judges would attend the briefing.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said they have issued more than 100,000 face masks to the health department and the provincial departments. “We have also provided the provincial department with protective gear, hygiene kits, surgical caps and spray machines,” the department said.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar briefed President Arif Alvi on the relief efforts being undertaken in the province. He informed the president that the government was making arrangement to help those affected by the virus.

Karachi, the provincial metropolis enters 17th day of lockdown as main roads in the city were closed off as Karachi entered its 17th day of lockdown on Wednesday. Police have closed road leading up from airport to Drigh Road, while the road leading up to Baloch Colony has also been closed off for traffic. Road near old Sabzi Mandi has also been closed off for traffic, authorities said, adding that the Liaqauatabad flyover has also been closed for traffic.
