Coronavirus Fifth Wave: Pakistan reports 6,377 new infections, 48 deaths in 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: Coronavirus fifth wave is continuously wreaking havoc across Pakistan as country has reported 48 new deaths in the last 24 hours highest toll in last four months and 6,377 people have been tested positive for the deadly virus.

According to the latest figures appeared on National Coronavirus Dashboard of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 48 deaths were reported across Pakistan the highest number in last four months while 6,377 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

With 6,377 people were tested positive for the COVID-19 the overall tally for infections surged to 1,448,640, the NCOC reported. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 29,420 on Friday morning after 48 new deaths were confirmed by the NCOC.

Giving the province-wise update to the COVID-19, the NCOC reported that Punjab province remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The NCOC confirmed the overall deaths tally of 29,420 across Pakistan out of which 13,221 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 7,853 in Sindh 6,027 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 988 in Islamabad, 766 in Azad Kashmir, 368 in Balochistan, and 189 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

NCOC also confirmed the overall toll of positive cases has surged to 1,442,640 across Pakistan out of which 547,920 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 485,810 in Punjab, 199,195 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 130,373 in Islamabad, 39,894 in Azad Kashmir, 34,634 in Balochistan and 10,837 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Giving details of the COVID-19 tests, the NCOC stated that Pakistan has so far conducted 25,258,723 coronavirus tests and 64,121 in the last 24 hours. 1,317,385 patients have recovered in the country whereas 1,618 patients are in critical condition.

Stating that out of 64,121 tests conducted during last 24 hours 6,377 people were tested positive that makes the COVID-19 positivity ratio was recorded at 9.95 per cent.

Giving updates of overall vaccination the NCOC reported that so far, 107,277,517 people have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine including 949,226 in last 24 hours. 83,946,354 citizens have been fully vaccinated while 671,271 received their second dose in last 24 hours.

The number of total administered doses has reached to 180,661,534 with 1,664,560 in the last 24 hours.
