ISLAMABAD: Coronavirus fifth wave is taking toll all over Pakistan, as country registered its highest number of daily COVID-19 cases 7,678 in the last 24 hours, up from 6,808, the second-highest daily toll, since the pandemic started in 2020, official figures showed Friday morning.
Previously, the highest daily toll was recorded on June 13, 2020, when the country reported 6,825 coronavirus cases, the National Command and Operation Centre’s (NCOC) data showed.
According to the latest figures appeared on National Coronavirus Dashboard of the NCOC, the positive cases were surged in Pakistan as during last 24 hours 7,678 new infections were reported along with 23 new deaths.
According to NCOC country witnessed the highest number of positive cases during last 24 hours with the toll of 7,678 new cases that took the overall tally to 1,353,479. After 23 new deaths were reported in Pakistan the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 29,065 on Friday morning.
As per the province-wise details of the NCOC, Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The NCOC reported that so far Pakistan has confirmed 1,353,479 positive cases out of which 516,874 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 458,879 in Punjab, 183,403 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 115,047 in Islamabad, 34,997 in Azad Kashmir, 33,812 in Balochistan and 10,467 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pakistan has so far conducted 24,415,716 coronavirus tests and 59,343 in the last 24 hours. 1,265,665 patients have recovered in the country whereas 961 patients are in critical condition.
The COVID-19 positivity ratio was recorded at 12.93 per cent.
So far, 102,975,552 people have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine including 286,593 in last 24 hours. 78,860,543citizens have been fully vaccinated while 470,601 received their second dose in last 24 hours.
The number of total administered doses has reached to 170,711,868 with 786,027 in the last 24 hours.
