ISLAMABAD: Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson has said that the on-going COVID-19 may drive as many as 70 to 100 million people into extreme poverty.
Addressing in high-level video conference, Wang Wenbin said that we must make poverty eradication front and centre and unlock the doors towards no poverty.
He mentioned that their country stressed to take a ‘development first’ approach, place greater importance on the 2030 Agenda, and make comprehensive, balanced and robust efforts toward the sustainable development goals and targets.
International cooperation on poverty eradication is an important part of global anti-epidemic efforts and a priority in the international human rights cause.
He assured Chinese commitment of standing side by side with other developing countries on poverty eradication.
The world appreciated Chinese position and proposal in conference regarding empowerment of developing countires and South-South cooperation.
He highlighted Chinese President Xi’s major approaches to support the UN and promote world peace and development.
Later, answering to question, he expressed hope for resolution of differences between Azarbaijan and Armenia through political dialogue.
