ISLAMABAD: Coronavirus Second Wave is continue to spread terror as Pakistan recorded highest single-day fatalities in five months. During last 24 hours 89 succumbed to deadly virus while 2,885 persons tested positive on Tuesday.
COVID-19 pandemic claimed 89 more lives across Pakistan that took the overall death toll nationwide to 8,487 and with 2,885 new cases reported in the country that took the tally of positive cases to 423,179 on Tuesday.
According to the latest figures displayed Tuesday on National Coronavirus Dashboard of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the NCOC confirmed the death of 89 more people during last 24 hours besies reported that 2,885 persons tested positive for COVID-19.
Out of total 89 deaths during last 24 hours two provinces of Sindh and Punjab have recorded 41 new deaths each while six died of the virus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan reported no deaths in the past 24 hours.
With 2,885 new infections, the number of coronavirus cases reported across the country reached 423,179 – out of which 44,218 cases are active. At least 2,486 patients are under critical care with 336 on ventilators.
The figure issued by NCOC stated that Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases surged to 186,212, followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Punjab has overtaken Sindh in most number of casualties.
Uptill now 186,212 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 124,191 in Punjab, 50,078 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,061 in Islamabad, 17,501 in Balochistan, 7,390 in Azad Kashmir and 4,746 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
overall death toll nationwide to 8,487 out of which 3,218 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 3,060 in Sindh, 1,419 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 341 in Islamabad, 182 in Azad Kashmir, 169 in Balochistan, and 98 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pakistan has so far conducted 5,827,852 coronavirus tests and 33,610 in the last 24 hours. 370,474 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 2,486 patients are in critical condition.
The case positivity rate has shot up to 8.58% with the highest COVID-19 prevalence observed in Karachi as 21.80% of the PCR tests conducted in the past 24 hours detected SARS-CoV-2, followed by 18.31% in Mirpur and 16% in Muzaffarabad. Hyderabad’s positivity rate has fallen to 9.15% and Lahore’s to 5.98% while Rawalpindi recorded 8.51% and 14.91%.
