ISLAMABAD: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) has approved 7th Census in its 49th meeting on Thursday. The CCI meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.
The CCI meeting was also attended by Chief Ministers, Federal Ministers, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, all Provincial Chief Secretaries, Chairman NADRA, Chief Commissioner Islamabad and other senior officials.
On the occasion, Premier said that the number of council meetings can be increased as per the demands of the provinces.
The three-point agenda was discussed at the meeting of the Council of Common Interests. The statement read that a basic census will be conducted before the housing and population census.
The committee will monitor the census activities. The Council of Common Interests has decided to conduct the seventh census through digital technology, GIS monitoring system.
The meeting approved the annual report of the Council of Common Interests for the financial year 2020-21. A total of 6 meetings were held during the financial year 2020-21, 21 agenda items were considered. The council will also facilitate effective communication between federal and provincial governments.
Additional water requirements for Karachi were also discussed and at the political and technical level it was decided to set up a committee to reconcile the position of the provinces and water related issues, the committee said.
The premier added that the government wants to have reliable census data, this data will be used to launch policies and plans for the welfare of citizens.
Moreover, he said that the establishment of the Permanent Secretariat reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation between the Federal and Provincial Governments. The Federal Government is committed to resolving national issues in consultation with all federal units and stakeholders.
