COVID-19 4th wave: Pakistan reports 2,545 new cases new highest figure since May

ISLAMABAD: Fourth wave of coronavirus pandemic took a new turn as  2,545 new cases were reported in Pakistan, the highest figure since May. 47 new deaths were also reported during last 24 hours.

The positivity rate also surges over 5 per cent as during last 24 hours 48,910 coronavirus tests were conducted across the country and 2,545 people were tested positive.

The Government on Thursday has confirmed 47 new deaths and 2,545 more people were tested positive. With 2,545 new coronavirus cases the toll of infections jumped to 981,392 cases. During last 24 hours 47 new deaths were reported that took the toll of fatalities to 22,689.

According to latest figures displayed on National Coronavirus Dashboard of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), The NCOC conducted overall more than 15.31 million coronavirus testes across the country while 48,910 COVID-19 tests conducted in 24 hours, out of them 2,336 were tested positive.

The coronavirus positivity ratio in Pakistan again rises above 5 per cent on Thursday. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the country is 68,959, while 916,373 people have recovered from the deadly disease and 3,557 were reported to be in critical condition.

Punjab still remained the worst hit province in fatalities during this month as positivity rate is still higher than the remaining parts of country where it has shown downward trend while the toll of infections. With 351,006 coronavirus cases Sindh remained at top of the table followed by Punjab with 349,111 cases, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The new cases have taken the national tally of positive cases to 981,392 out of which 351,006 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 349,111 in Punjab, 139,960 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 84,083 in Islamabad, 28,588 in Balochistan, 21,481 in Azad Kashmir and 7,163 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Nationwide tally of deaths across the country surged to 22,689 out of that 10,852 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 5,647 in Sindh, 4,377 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 787 in Islamabad, 596 in Azad Kashmir, 317 in Balochistan, and 113 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan has so far conducted 15,248,785 coronavirus tests and 48,910 in the last 24 hours. 916,373 patients have recovered in the country whereas 2,336 patients are in critical condition.
