COVID-19, A Lesson For The World!

The ancient Chinese general, Sun Tzu in his book, “The Art of War” wrote, “War is always around the corner and we must stay ready for it”.

How relatable to current scenario when an eerie virus has declared war on mankind and this enemy does not discriminate between gender, race, or religion.

You can say rather humorously it is somewhat democratic in its methods. Though the origins of this virus are still up for debate; it is commonly accepted that its origin was when a bat jumped ship to its first human victim in an exotic meat market in Wuhan, China.

The virus named,” COVID-19″ belongs to the family of Corona viruses. These come in all shapes and forms, they can range from relatively mild flu to Pneumonia which can cause respiratory failure and even death.

The Virus has destabilized the global economy, and shown fractures, and fault lines in various nations’ regulatory bodies. Various developed nations arec having difficulty in holding the spread and curing the sick from this unrelenting plague.

Now, if developed nations are under such strain; imagine what the South-Asian, Middle-Eastern and African countries be forced to face with their high populations and barely functional healthcare systems.

A frightening example can be seen of Iran. The nation is fighting a severe outbreak, with death-tolls reached to thousands, not to mention many thousands who have fallen ill. The nation was slow at first to deal with the situation which has caused it to slip out of control.

In other worst hit countries like Italy, USA, Spain and many other nations, hundreds of thousands of people are infected by the virus.

The global economy has also been dreadfully affected. Global shipping, the backbone of the world’s economy, has fallen by thirty percent which is relatively a conservative estimate.

The Chinese who were among the worst hit and at the epicenter of the virus, brought the situation under control but they had to take very unpleasant drastic measures to stop the spread of Covid-19. Cooperation of their citizens was also exemplary in controlling it.

As we speak of many countries are working tirelessly to develop a vaccine to cure this plague; the virus is yet to wage more damage in its war against mankind before it predictably finishes.

To sum up, pandemics like this should be an urgent wake-up call for governments around the globe.

There should be well-established mechanism and regulations able to identify and curtail the spread of such viruses.

Just imagine if a virus like Ebola if begins to spread with a 30-60% death rate, how detrimental would it be for the world community.

Moreover, we must be grateful to the brave doctors, nurses and various international organisations working tirelessly at the front lines of the war against COVID-19.

It is also a civic duty of all afflicted nations to show some gratitude for these brave men and women. And also to cooperate in following the rules and plans of their respective government.

War is never pleasant, but victory is inevitable if the world shows determination and unity.
