CPEC a role-model for BRI’s countries: Chinese scholars

ISLAMABAD: CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) will e a role model for other corridors of BRI (Belt and Road Initiative), its importance for regional economic integration is unparalleled through these two collaborative development network.

These were the views of Chinese scholars who were addressing the inaugural session of the two-day international conference organized by China-Pakistan Study Center (CPSC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) in collaboration with PowerChina.

The inaugural session was attended by President PowerChina, Du Chunguo and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Yao Jing.

They were of the view that human resource development for launching SEZs projects; resolving bigger economic challenges like Pakistan’s fiscal debt and balance of payment, as well as following China’s poverty alleviation practices for socio-economic development in Pakistan are suggested as future imperatives.

On the occasion Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said on the Belt and Road Initiative is a transformational venture and can bring peace and development in the region. “Things are changing in the region and we are recognizant of alignments,” he added.

Earlier, in his welcome remarks, Director General ISSI, Ambassador Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said that the BRI and CPEC can help us navigate the challenges of contemporary times.

In his introductory remarks, Director CPSC, Dr. Talat Shabir emphasized that there is a need to hold debates and generate constructive ideas through research and collaboration.

President PowerChina, Mr. Du Chunguo elaborated that 40 power projects has been completed in Pakistan focusing on socio-economic development of the people.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing in his address commended the efforts by the government of Pakistan in implementing CPEC. Pakistani government, the Ambassador said, has adopted economy-oriented foreign policy which, he remarked, is the right policy.
