ISLAMABAD: CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) total loan volume from China is $5.8 billion, said Ahsan Iqbal, Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), adding that the statement of ASAD Umar, newly inducted Minister for Planning that these loans amounted $18 billion.

Terming the statement of Asad Umar, PTI stalwart as irresponsible one PNL-N leader said “irresponsible statements” by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government on the multi-billion dollar corridor had already created problems.

This is not new on the part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as a political party and as government.

The volume of Chinese loans under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was $5.8 billion and it is beyond imaginations that PTI’s Planning Minister is giving statement of these loans amounted $18 billion.

Iqbal took to Twitter to debunk the planning minister’s claims. He said “irresponsible statements” by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government on the multi-billion dollar corridor had already created problems.

The PML-N leader said these Chinese loans were payable within 20-25 years with an average markup of 2%. He said all energy projects under the CPEC were investment-based.

“These terms can’t be called loan; it is a special gift for iron brother Pakistan from China,” Iqbal added. By Our Correspondent
