SRINAGAR: Bloodbath continued in Indian Held Kashmir where four more Kashmiris were martyred including Riyaz Naikoo a top local rebel commander.
Media reports said twenty people were injured, three residential houses were destroyed, mobile and internet services have been once again snapped, and curfew has imposed in most parts of Kashmir.
Four youth were martyred in two different operations in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. IHK police claimed that two rebels were killed in an encounter between Government forces and rebels in Shaar Shali village of Khrew area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Earlier an official said that on specific inputs about the presence of rebels, cordon and search operation was launched in the area by joint team of forces including 50 RR, CRPF and Awantipora Police
As forces approached towards suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon forces which was retaliated, triggering an encounter, he claimed.
The identification of slain youth was not immediately known.
Another encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Beighpora area of Pulwama district, a police spokesman said.
“Police last night launched an operation on a specific input at Beighpora. Senior officers are monitoring it since last night,” he said.
The spokesman said a contact has been established with the rebels and a “top rebel commander” is trapped.
The search operation was launched in Beighpora last night with the security forces also moving earth digging machines into the village. The security forces dug all entry and exit points leading to the village.
As they zeroed in on particular house, they said, the rebels opened fire which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter.
The local rebel commander Riyaz Naikoo and his associate Adil were killed in a gunfight with a joint team of police, army and CRPF at Beighpora area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said on Wednesday.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar (IPS) confirmed to news reporters the killing of Naikoo and his associate in the gunfight.
The youth clashed with Indian security forces near gunfire site and in retaliation security forces fired live bullets and pellets on protesters in which 20 protesters were injured which were later shifted to nearby hospital.
The senior police official told reporters that body of slain rebels will not be given to their respective families as they fear law and order problem. Three residential houses were also completely destroyed in two operations.
Authorities have suspended mobile Internet and voice call facilities across the Kashmir Valley and imposed strict curfew in most major towns of the valley fearing mass protests against killing of Naikoo.
