Dark day for humanity

At least 49 persons were killed in mass shootings at two New Zealand mosques full of worshippers during Friday prayers in the city of Christchurch.

A man identified as 28-year-old Australian Brenton Tarrant has been charged with the murder and would be produced in a court of law. He entered the two mosques and shot dead 41 people at Masjid Al Noor at 1.40pm local time, and seven more at the Linwood Masjid a short distance away.

Advertisment

The incident is continuation of the attacks against humanity in different parts of the world since some time in the past irrespective of their cast and religion. The gruesome incident though was targeted against Muslim community. Murder of a human being whatever religion, cast, nationality he belonged to is condemnable.

The murderer sent a message that nowhere in the world is safe. The incident left dozens of families in grief with a human being and nothing else to blame for the same — the most deplorable part of the story. The incident can also be interpreted as a conspiracy against the Muslims as they only were the target.

The government of New Zealand is under moral obligation to make Muslims there believe that they are safe in future. Whatever the fate of the murderer is, the victims cannot see their dear ones again. The authorities are expected to do the needful to ensure that the culprit meets the fate he deserves and no person in future takes life of a human being in such a manner.
