Decision of Government on lockdown is complete disarray, confusion: Durrani

LAHORE: Decision making of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) government regarding the lockdown amid burgeoning COVID-19 pandemic, was in complete disarray and confused when the nation was facing danger of huge loss of life and economy in the pandemic.

This was stated by former federal minister, Muhammad Ali Durrani in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

Durrani said foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s demand that ‘lock down must be imposed in larger public interests’ was loudly speaking that government has no courage or patience.

Durrani said Qureshi who is also senior vice chairman of PTI had not only expressed no-confidence over Prime Minister Imran Khan and his strategy to deal with coronavirus threat, but also negated the televised speeches to the nation Imran had been making over the last few weeks.

“Masses are asking who should be followed, Prime Minister or Shah Mehmood Qureshi under these troubled times, as one is for and the other is against the lock down”, former minister said, adding that Prime Minister should at least keep his kitchen cabinet from making contradictory statements against his policies to prevent spreading more confusion among the masses.

Durrani said the situation showed prime minister Imran Khan had not even taken his cabinet into confidence over his strategies to counter the spread of corona virus.

He said a display of consensus among entire nation was the need of the hour to effectively overcome the crises but the Prime Minister had badly failed towards showing any sincerity in opening his arms for the opposition parties.

Consensus in the government ranks would have been a blessing to pacify the already troubled masses, Durrrani said, adding that Pakistanis knew the government lacked resources and expertise to deal with the global calamity, the corona virus, but the Prime Minister must realize that displaying the sincerity and will to lead the nation would not require him any material resources.
