LAHORE: Pakistan‘s sole genuine opening batsman in the Champions Trophy squad, Fakhar Zaman, has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy after suffering an injury while fielding in the opening match against New Zealand in Karachi.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the national team is set to depart for Dubai today (Thursday) for their crucial clash against India on February 23. However, Fakhar Zaman will not be traveling with the squad.
Reports indicated that his injury was serious, making him unavailable for the rest of the tournament.
The PCB has approached the ICC Technical Committee for a replacement, with Imam-ul-Haq emerging as the frontrunner for the spot.
Fakhar sustained the injury in the first over while fielding against New Zealand. Despite leaving the field twice for treatment, he continued playing but was visibly struggling during his batting innings.
