ISLAMABAD: First National Student’s Congress on Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation concluded here with the pledge to improve the standards of care given to the patients.
Organized by Student Focus- the largest student-centered physiotherapy organization in Pakistan, the two day congress was attended by more than 500 physical therapy students and rehabilitation professionals all across the country.
Pre-conference workshops were arranged on topics including; women health physical therapy, brain reorganization in stroke, and publishing of rehabilitation research at Kulsoom International Hospital and Max Health Hospital Islamabad.
Dr. Fahad Ali (President, Student Focus), Dr. Asbar Javed (Founding Member, Student focus) and Dr. Mudassir Yaseen (Advisor, Student Focus) provided an overview of the activities and initiatives taken by Student Focus last year.
During the event, 10 keynote speeches were given by eminent professionals of the field Dr. Awais Bin Inam PT, Dr. Muhammad Ehab Azim PT, Dr. Aamir Raoof Memon PT, Dr. Muhammad Hashim PT, Dr. Saira Waqqar PT and Dr. Obaid Ullah PT.
Speakers extended proposals for improving standards of care given to the patients, and in physiotherapy education and research. The students pledged to achieve that.
During the moot, students and health professions also discussed how the students can avail prestigious international scholarship and tap job opportunities in and outside the country.

A group discussion was conducted, highlighting challenges and opportunities for physical therapy professionals – including debate on dire need of the Physiotherapy council in the country.
The group stressed active involvement and attention by government to uplift profession of physical therapy in Pakistan.
Many research papers were also presented during the moot. Muhammad Moosa Asif was awarded best oral presentation award.
