Fuel prices expected to drop, offering relief to consumers

Consumers of petroleum products may get some relief as fuel prices are expected to decline over the next two weeks, potentially reducing transportation costs and easing household expenses.

According to sources, prices of petrol, high-speed diesel, kerosene oil, and light diesel oil are likely to be reduced starting January 16.

Petrol prices are expected to ease slightly, offering relief to commuters who rely on motorcycles and cars, with a potential drop of Rs4.59 per litre — from Rs253.17 to Rs248.58.

High-speed diesel, a key fuel for buses, trucks, farms, tube wells, and power generation, is also likely to become cheaper. A decrease of Rs2.70 per litre could bring its price down from Rs257.08 to Rs254.38.

Kerosene oil, used for cooking in many low-income households, may see a modest cut of Rs1.82 per litre, reducing its price from Rs170.88 to Rs169.06.

Light diesel oil is expected to fall by Rs2.08 per litre, bringing its price down from Rs146.18 to Rs144.10.

If approved, these reductions would provide some breathing space for consumers, help lower transport costs, and ease financial pressure on farmers and small businesses.
