MAKRAN: Gomazi has never have been village with any basic facilities to ease our sufferings, said Mrs. Muzeer a resident of the village, and a heart patient who once every two months has to visit the doctor in Turbat for her regular checkups.
A hospital lies beneath her own eyes and within her own village, still she along with several others have to travel for basic medications.
One of the biggest villages of Makran district, Gomazi having a population of 11, 831, lack facility to treat its own people even though it has a hospital.
In 1980, a dispensary was set up to treat people of the area. In 1990 a proper government hospital was reestablished named “The HRCP Gomazi Hospital” where two MBBS doctors were assigned to treat the people, however one of them never showed up, said the locals.
There is just one doctor and no nurse at this medical facility. Besides the doctors there are two sanctioned posts of nurses in the hospital after its upgradation.
According to locals there is one doctor to treat the whole village and among two nurses deputed none ever been present in the hospital.
The hospital has inefficient facilities and is neglected with no ambulances, ventilators, or any operational equipment or tools. The people have to take their patients to nearby villages such that as Tump.
Mrs. Muzeer a local of the area said there are specific reasons for absences of doctors; there is no accommodation available for those posted in the hospital, a place next to the hospital allocated for the purpose is abandoned and had not been renovated since 1990.
For the past 5 years the authorities have not provided any equipment to the hospital. The facility does have medications for basic colds and minor illness. The doctor does not have nurses or other support staff.
The only doctor available there is a source of hope for the people of Gomazi. Dr. Haider Baloch says that the health department has neglected this hospital for a long time. He said being the native he tries his best to facilitate the locals however he sometimes feels helpless when patients with complications come. Even for normal child births there is no nurse available.
