Hundreds of children risk life every day in dilapidated Govt. High School Dadyal

Hardly any part of the school’s building is safe for use-many class rooms can cave-in any time.

DADYAL (AJK): The pictures you would see below are not of any haunted building
or a neglected institution in some far flung area of Sindh or Balochistan
provinces.

These are pictures of Government High School Dadyal, the largest state run
educational institution in an area known as “mini England”.

Advertisment

Dadyal is only 80 km away from Islamabad. Tehsil Dadyal provides foreign
exchange worth billions of rupees every year to the national kitty in the form
of remittances sent by hundreds of thousands of natives of the area settled
abroad.

Built in late 1960’s in the heart of city, soon after new city of Dadyal was set up in hilly area north of the old city that came in Mangla Dam, the second biggest water reservoir of the country after Tarbela Dam, this school is tumbledown today.

Hardly any part of the school’s building is safe for use-many class rooms can cave-in any time.

Hundreds of students and dozens of teachers are forced to risk their lives everyday using the institution. Most politicians from the electoral area called LA-1 Mirpur 1, including present and former elected members of AJK legislative assembly, bureaucrats, judges, lawyers, doctors and people from other walks of life have studied from this school.

Adjacent to posh opulent bungalows and markets, the repair work of the
institution suffered inordinate delay, due to local political wrangling, lack
of funds from the government and apathy of the locals.

A major chunk of population of District Mirpur as a whole, especially tehsil Dadyal have settled in England. There are thousands of lavishly built houses in the area, many of them have been filmed and showcased in documentaries to show prosperity and wealth in the area.

Over the years, the affluent locals started sending their children either to
big cities or private institutions leaving government run schools only for
lower middle and the poor.

The institution needs immediate attention of government of AJK,
philanthropists and influential of the area before any untoward incident takes
place. It is matter of life of hundreds of innocent souls.
