ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the transformation of Islamabad’s police stations into “Smart Police Stations” to modernize law enforcement in the capital.
During a progress review meeting on the upgradation of police stations in Islamabad on Saturday, Naqvi emphasized the need to move away from traditional policing methods, which he described as symbols of fear.
The meeting was attended by Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, DIG Operations, and other senior officials.
He noted that citizens often hesitate before approaching police stations, reflecting on his own visits where he observed the dire conditions.
“Islamabad is the face of Pakistan,” Naqvi said, stressing the need to adopt smart policing to elevate the capital to international standards.
He assured that all necessary resources would be provided for this transition.
Naqvi also announced that polite and educated officers would be deployed in the Smart Police Stations, which will be upgraded in phases.
He instructed the team to develop cost-effective yet high-quality designs for these stations and to identify suitable land for those currently operating in other buildings.
Naqvi did not provide specific details on how the transition to “smart” police stations would be implemented.
The interior minister further underscored that merit would not be compromised in the recruitment of new officers for Islamabad Police, ensuring that only fit, educated, and deserving candidates would be selected.
He also highlighted the importance of improving police behavior towards citizens.
