IESCO ex-employee deprived of rights for saying “no to corruption”

ISLAMABAD: To punish him for raising voice against massive administrative and financial corruption, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), has halted the pension of a retired employee for saying no to Corruption.
Manzoor Hussain, 60, worked in IESCO for 38 years and retired on February 15, 2020, as Meter Reading Supervisor (MRS), a portfolio of grade-11.
According the documents available with The News Today, thousands of bogus electricity meters were issued to electrify the illegal private housing societies in Islamabad and Rawalpindi division, despite an official ban on issuing new electricity connections in the area.
An official communication between IESCO chief, Shahid Iqbal Chaudhry and the victim Manzoor Hussain revealed that the matter of bogus electricity meters issuance and electrifying illegal housing societies was brought into the knowledge of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on July 14, 2019 with additional information about alleged involvement of senior officials of IESCO.
Resulting, the IESCO high-ups instead of investigating the matter and holding officials involved in this mega scam responsible, not only halted the pension of poor employee but also harassed him with orders to vacate the official residential quarter allotted to him by the government, claimed the victim.
Hussain was the effectee of 2005 earthquake and his residence in Jehlum valley of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) was demolished when 7.6 magnitudes tremor jolted the entire country.
The than federal minister of water and power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi had also allotted the official residence to Mr. Hussain in IESCO colony, residential quarter No. 53-B in sector G-7 Islamabad. Some other earthquake affected employees were also given similar accommodations.
According to Hussain, a deputy Manager which is in-charge Enterprise Resource Planning started asking him to vacate the official residence despite victim’s son is also employee of company and the transfer of allotment is allowed by the company on humanitarian grounds.
This scribe tried repeatedly but could not reach to CEO IESCO Shahid Iqbal Chaudhry to get his response on this issue.
