BEIJING: Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit has achieved fruitful results and will add new impetus to China-Pakistan’s all-weather strategic partnership.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s here on Thursday at a regular news conference, while commenting on the just concluded visit of Imran Khan.
He said, the Chinese side attached great importance to this visit. President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman National People’s Congress Li Zhanshu met with Prime Minister respectively to meet and exchange views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.
The two sides agreed to maintain close high-level exchanges and closer strategic communication, and coordinate their positions on major issues in a timely manner.
Promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor with high standards, and build the corridor into a demonstration project of high-quality development of the “Belt and Road”.
Strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, economy, trade, finance, and production capacity, and take effective measures to promote more balanced development of China-Pakistan trade and achieve mutual benefit and common development.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen communication and cooperation in multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and the SCO to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.
During the visit, the two sides signed a number of cooperation documents in the fields of infrastructure construction, law enforcement security, culture and education, and media.
Asked whether President Xi during his forthcoming meeting with Prime Minister Modi will take up Kashmir issue, the spokesperson said, China’s position on the Kashmir issue is consistent and clear. Regarding the relevant situation of the second informal meeting between the leaders of China and India, we will release the news in a timely manner, please pay attention to it.
Answering a question about the Xinjiang, he said the current political stability, economic development, national unity and social harmony in Xinjiang are in great shape.
The preventive counter-terrorism and de-extremism measures adopted by the Chinese side in Xinjiang have won the support and support of the 25 million people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. Facts have also proved that these initiatives have achieved positive results.
This is not only conducive to maintaining the stability of the Xinjiang region, but also contributing to international counter-terrorism practices.
The spokesperson reiterated that the recent extreme violent crimes in Hong Kong have challenged the rule of law and social order in Hong Kong, threatened the lives and property of Hong Kong people and undermined Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability.
