In Search of Drinking Water Four of Family Lost Lives in Handwara

SRINAGAR: In search of drinking four members of a family have lost their lives when their car falls in a deep ravine in Rajwar area of the Handwara Tehsil of of district Kupwara of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, local police in its preliminary report said.

The police revealed that the accident took place late last night when the ill-fated vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge.

Police on Tuesday said that the four, including two teenage girls, had gone to collect drinking water from a stream at Rajwar late Monday night in a vehicle, the Tata Magic, which skidded off the road and fell deep into a gorge, resulting in critical injuries to the occupants.

All the injured were shifted to the nearby Community Health Centre Zachaldara, where doctors declared them dead.

The deceased were identified as Ghulam Rashool Bhat, his son Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, and daughters Shabnum Aara and Rifat Aara.

The people of the area alleged that Handwara has been facing an acute drinking water shortage for the past few months, and the Jal Shakti department has failed to take any positive initiative in this regard.
