A training aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on Wednesday during a routine sortie in Prayagraj, triggering swift rescue and recovery operations, according to Indian media reports.
According to initial details, the aircraft developed a technical fault during a scheduled training mission, causing the pilot to lose control. The aircraft subsequently crashed into a nearby pond and was completely destroyed.
Teams from the Indian Air Force, local administration and emergency services rushed to the site and launched relief and recovery operations.
Security forces cordoned off the area as a precaution while authorities assessed the situation.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud, explosion-like sound moments before the aircraft rapidly descended into the water. The sudden crash caused brief panic in the surrounding area.
Indian media later reported that the aircraft was a two-seater microlite on a routine sortie near the K P College ground in the George Town area.
According to defence sources quoted by PTI, the recovery system was activated and both the pilot and the other crew member onboard are safe.
The aircraft, some early reports suggested, was a trainer jet and that two pilots were injured. However, officials said there is no confirmed information about injuries so far and that final details will be shared after rescue and recovery operations are completed.
Air Force officials from Indian confirmed that a formal investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the crash. Authorities said technical assessments and evidence from the site will be reviewed as part of the inquiry.
