Celebration of International Women’s Day at Govt. Viqar-Un-Nisa Post Graduate College (W), Rawalpindi called for the highlighting of an important issue, especially in the backdrop of the Pakistani context. Hence, to highlight a grave issue, the subject rightly chosen for this occasion was ‘Early Child Marriage’. In this regard, a poem titled ‘Women Empowerment’ was presented by a student focusing on the need to realize the strength of a woman. How beautifully the message reverberated, ‘They are strong; even when they know there’s no strength left’!

The arguments presented in the speeches and poems focused on the need for educating people to stop early childhood marriages. Documentaries were also shown to the audience educating about the need for education, both for the girls and boys, which is made impossible due to early child marriages.

The highlight of the program was a skit presented by the students on the topic of women education and early child marriages. The event concluded with the address of the honorable Principal of the college, Prof. Dr. Saira Mufti, in which she appreciated all the participants, organizers and the team work observed during the program. The worthy Principal also talked about gender equality and the rights and privileges given to women in Islam. She further focused on the need for women education as women have the power to create history and denying education to women means denying education to the whole humanity.
