ISLAMABAD: Apple has now officially opened preorders of its new iPhone 16 line, where there are four models to select: iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. The base model will cost 829 dollars, and the Pro Max will cost 1,199 dollars before they are released on 20 September.
When you think about upgrading, it is a good idea to evaluate the necessity of this process. In case your existing phone is still in good condition but with battery problems, then it may be more economical to get a battery replacement service from Apple. Nevertheless, when your device is getting slower and slower or more difficult to operate, an upgrade may be reasonable.
All iPhone 16 models, similar to the iPhone 15, will have USB-C ports and will have Apple Intelligence, a set of new artificial intelligence capabilities, later this year. In case you are interested in these innovations, the upgrade may be worth it.
Which Model is Best for You?
The primary distinctions between models are in the size of the screen and the battery. The regular iPhone 16 and the Plus have a difference in display size, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively, and the Plus has a longer battery life. The same can be said about Pro and Pro Max, where the Max has the longest battery range in the line.
The new feature across the range is the customisable Action Button, which replaces the standard mute switch and can be programmed to do things like turn on the torch or the camera. A new Camera Control button allows fast changes of camera modes and zoom levels.
Audio Mix is one of the most outstanding features that enables users to have more control over audio in video recording. It has settings such as In-Frame and Studio to adjust focus and background noise, and the Pro models have even better microphones to produce even clearer results. The improved Photographic Styles to achieve more precise skin tones and detail are also available on all models.
Apple Intelligence Integration
Apple Intelligence will be present in all models of the iPhone 16 and the previous year iPhone 15 Pro smartphones. It features a redesigned Siri, generative emojis (Genmoji), and more sophisticated writing instruments.
The entire iPhone 16 line will feature OLED displays with a maximum of 2,000 nits peak brightness, Ceramic Shield, IP68 water resistance, and MagSafe wireless charging with Qi2 compatibility to charge faster and more efficiently.
Model Comparison
iPhone 16 ($829): A 6.1-inch phone with the new A18 chip, which is 30 percent faster than the previous model. It has an improved 12MP ultrawide camera that has autofocus support for macro photography.
iPhone 16 Plus ($929): Equipped with the same specs as the regular model, but has a bigger 6.7-inch display and a longer battery life.
iPhone 16 Pro ($999): Comes with a 6.3-inch screen, thinner bezels, and a titanium frame to make it more durable. It has a 120Hz ProMotion screen and is driven by the A18 Pro chip, which improves gaming and processing performance.
iPhone 16 Pro Max ($1,199): The 6.9-inch display, outstanding battery life, and 48MP Fusion camera that performs well with moving objects and low-light shots. It is compatible with ProRes video recording and Night Mode portraits, which makes it a perfect device to use by content creators.
Alternative Options to be considered
In case the iPhone 16 lineup is not what you need or can afford, Apple continues to offer older models like the iPhone 15 ($699) and iPhone 14 ($599). The cheapest iPhone is the SE (2022) at 429, and it will be updated in early 2025.
To have more flexibility, it is better to buy your iPhone unlocked. Remember that newer iPhones no longer use physical SIM cards, but rather eSIM technology.
Bottom Line
The iPhone 16 lineup will have a range of new features and performance enhancements, especially for those who are curious about the upcoming AI advancements of Apple. Nevertheless, there is still a good value to be had by those on a budget in older or refurbished models sold by retailers such as Swappa or Gazelle.
