“We will not give the black boxes to the manufacturer (Boeing) and the Americans,” Iran Civil Aviation Organisation head Ali Abedzadeh said.

“It’s not yet clear which country the black box will go to for the investigation,” he was quoted as saying.

“This accident will be investigated by Iran’s aviation organisation but the Ukrainians can also be present during the incident´s investigation,” he added.

The Ukraine International Airlines aircraft crashed on Wednesday morning shortly after it took off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini airport. All 176 passengers on the flight were killed in the crash.

An earlier statement on the crash from the Ukrainian embassy in Tehran said the crash had occurred due to engine failure. However, a second statement from the embassy omitted the word engine failure from its statement, saying that previous comments made regarding the cause of the crash were not official.
