JKML demands release of IoK detainees from Indian jails

SRINAGAR: Acting Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Farooq Ahmed Tawheedi, has expressed concern over the continued detention of Kashmiri political detainees in various Indian jails and demanded their immediate release to save them from coronavirus.

Farooq Ahmad Tawheedi in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Indian government was well aware that Hurriyat leaders and activists had been fighting for their legitimate right to self-determination for the last seven decades and they wanted the settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per the UN resolutions.

He said that the JKML Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt, had been under illegal detention for the past several years. “His only crime is that he is a political leader and demands right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,� he added.

Farooq Ahmed Tawheedi said that hundreds of other Hurriyat leaders and activists are also detained in various jails of India. He asked New Delhi to release all the Kashmiri detainees immediately so that they could be protected from getting affected by the deadly coronavirus.
